Hi! I’m Julia Stainton and I’m super excited to guest design for Gauche Alchemy for the month of May! I love all things vintage and mixing things up so I’m excited to play with Gauche Alchemy’s fabulous ephemera kits.
Whether you create with solely the items included in a GA kit or mix it up with other product you own, I know you’ll love adding all kinds of whimsical treasures to your projects. Gauche Alchemy makes it so very easy.
As a book lover, text fascinates me and incorporating old books is one of the easiest ways to incorporate ephemera into your projects. Today, both my project use vintage book pages. Torn and yellowed edges add to their charm . When you use old papers, you’ll find that they can be quite brittle. I find that adhering them with a dry adhesive can cause them to tear so using a liquid adhesive tends to be a better option for these delicate papers.
May’s theme of the month is Hot Mama so I decided to start off by creating a sweet card for a mom. I’ve layered a lot of great neutral textures together from a Gauche Alchemy kit for a subtle look. By keeping the look monochromatic and sponging all the edges with Distress Ink, it helps tie all the unique elements together.
Another fun way to use old book pages is to punch them. It’s simple to create a cohesive design by using a grid and by punching various papers with the same punch. I know this design is a bit of a stretch with this month’s theme but hot makes me think of love and if you turn that little wow word accent upside down, you get mom. J
