Guest designers

That’s right. Guest designerS – with an “s.”

We girls tend to go to excess and extreme. In our short time in business, perhaps you’ve noticed this. We tend to offer a lot for your money, which we try to say (in a business savvy way) is because we want to give you “value,” but I’m going to let you in on a little secret.

We just love what we do. We love hunting down cool stuff and we love putting it together into an awesome kit. And we love unveiling it. And we have, so far, been finding that our profit margin is not as good as it could be because of this. And we don’t care.

Considering the above, it should be no surprise to you that we could not choose only one guest designer. We justified this by noting that the main and add-on kit are selling for $70 retail – and they are (promise) worth more than that, actually. We felt we’d spare ONE person the obligation of churning out all the projects that big a kit would inspire. So, we’re going to send the kits to TWO designers this month, with some overlap so that each person gets key portions of both kits.

And just because we’re snotty like that, we’re pushing the envelope and asking the October GDs to step outside of their comfort zone just a little and do some projects that we didn’t necessarily see a lot of on their blogs. We are so confident in their artistic ability and creativity that I’m positive they will not let us down – I can’t WAIT to see what they come up with!

I’m sure you’re turning blue from holding your breath, so I’ll just out with it. The October GDs are:

Andrea Davenport, NC, USA blog: lifeincardstock.blogspot.com

Candy Bonoan-Lagazon, Philippines blog: eyecandyscrap.blogspot.com

But wait – there’s more! We just could NOT let so many of you slip away, so we scheduled into January:

November 2008 – Anne-Marie Teo, Switzerland/Singapore blog: muffyvan.org
gallery: www.flickr.com/photos/muffyvan/sets/72157594237371384/

December 2008 – Nina Patena, Philippines blog: creatinginsolitude.blogspot.com

January 2009 – Susan Lui, Singapore blog: www.luv2scrap-pages.blogspot.com

Now comes the “kissing your ass” part, but I’m really, truly being 100% sincere. We so very much appreciate every single application and applicant. Even “narrowing down” to 5 people was extremely difficult for us. Yadda, yadda, yadda – I know that’s what everyone says, but we are TRULY honored to have such fantastic artists and designers chomping at the bit to design for us, especially considering we just launched on September 1st! Many of you are in great demand – for good reason – and it broke our hearts to have to turn you away. Many of you SHOULD be in great demand, even if you’re relatively “undiscovered” at this time. Please keep commenting and showing us your work! I will be posting links to every applicant’s blog within the next few days – then you’ll see why we had such a difficult time. We’ll be putting up a flickr gallery soon, as well – and we are so excited to see what you all do with our kits. I’m sure we’ll be stealing ideas from you for our own projects!

If you’re still reading, there is actually some more good news. In a very informal sense, we will likely be asking our favorite artists and scrapbookers to complete little projects for us here and there. A “guest designer at large,” so to speak. Put your work in front of us – you never know when we might be inclined to offer you some product in exchange for your genius.

Our first Designer-At-Large is Julie Kirk, and you’ll be seeing a thing or two from her this fall. Her blog: Julie’s MySpace

I’m thinking we’re gonna do a contest soon, too… it’ll be something screwy and fun. You don’t HAVE to use our product to enter, but just a reminder – October kit(s) are $5 cheaper if you reserve in the next two days. Just e-mail me at gauchealchemy at cox dot net, and I’ll send you a PayPal invoice.

Oh! I almost forgot – just got the Poe collage sheet done for the main kit:
