Here’s another tutorial for you. Instead of melting beeswax, I decided to play with crayons and my mini-iron today. The piece I was working on came out better than I dreamed it would, so Yasu grabbed the camera and recorded demonstration of the technique.
You’ll have to wait until next Monday, when we post sneak peaks of the February kit, before you’ll be able to see what I was actually working on (my first honest-to-goodness mixed media artwork – I’ve always been an admirer and wannabe… now I have an ACTUAL mixed media artwork!). It will make more sense once you see the actual piece… but it’s top secret for now.

Gauche Alchemy 
That is one great tutorial, Amy! I should try that myself, but first I should get myself a cute little iron, too! Oh, and the possibilities are just staggering! Ever tried doing what you did with lace underneath the paper for a patterned look? I think it would look spectacular! Was just looking at the Gauche Alchemy blinkie and I suddenly thought, wouldn’t that look good on melted wax!
What a clever idea! I am going to have to try that! I have that same iron and I have a ton of crayons thanks to my 3 kids, LOL! Can you use a regular candle too? Just curious. I can’t wait to see what you made, girlie!!! The suspense is going to kill me! 🙂

I was also thinking it would be fun to stamp into the partially-cooled wax with a rubber stamp… but I need to figure out how to clean the stamp afterwards.
Maybe I’ll do another tutorial with these techniques to show you how they turn out…. hmmm….

Hi Amy, you had me laughing at the part in the video where you said that [your] kids probably have a lot of broken crayons…I actually bought a mega carousel of crayons from Target with the intent of taking all the cool metallic colors just for this technique…my 4 year old was fighting me for them…he was NOT a happy camper 😀
I tried this technique a while ago, but did not smear the wax, but left the drips for a spray-effect; Here’s the layout:
