I have a confession to make. I don’t like getting presents! There, I’ve said it! I quite like giving presents, but I really, really would rather not get any!
You see, at my stage in my life I have everything I need, and if I really want, or need, something else I can go and buy it myself. I don’t need anyone else to buy it for me. I’m not interested in clothes, or jewellery. I have enough clutter in my house without it being added to by someone giving me something that I never wanted in the first place. I know I’m turning into a grumpy old woman, but please, people don’t waste your hard earned money on me. I have all the ‘things’ I need to live my life comfortably and happily! I understand that others like to show they care, and presents can be a way of doing that, but if anyone really wants to show how much they care for me, well come and clean my oven, shampoo my carpets, cook me a meal or do any one of the other household jobs that I find so tedious.
My mother in law, on the other hand, loves presents. This year, I was super organised for her birthday. I bought the present in advance, and made a lovely card. On the morning of her birthday, I went to wrap the present, and guess what? No wrapping paper! What to do? Make some of course! Fortunately I had a roll of brown paper in the house and was able to whip up some pretty paper in no time, using acrylic paint, sequin waste, a rubber stamp and stazon ink.
