Lara got to meet Bono!

Check this out – a photo of design team captain Lara Wineman with her hero, Bono.

Is that not the cutest stinkin’ photo you’ve ever seen?  I am so excited for her.

How did this come about?  Well, this is a truly interesting story.  Lara is deeply involved with the African Well Fund, which is a non-profit organization established by a group of U2 fans who were inspired by Bono’s 2002 trip to Africa.  It became clear how much difference a well could make for an African village – at a relatively low cost.  So these plucky fans put together this organization to make a difference in our world.  Every year, the members of AWF put together a batch of birthday messages for Bono and deliver a hand-made birthday card to his management company, including the amount raised for African wells.  Lara is the card artist.  🙂

But this year – THIS year – Lara got to hand deliver the card straight to Bono himself.  And Bono was gracious and complimentary, told our dear Lara she is an artist whose work reminds him of American folk artist Howard Finster.

This year’s card is fashioned out of a heckuva lot of Gauche goodness (what else would you expect of this wildly creative Gauche girl?).

Read the entire story  (and see more pictures!) at Lara’s blog.  It’s a good one.  Awesome work, Lara – awesome art, awesome heart.
